North Carolina’s Wilmington Convention Center is still a few months from opening, but it’s already nabbed its first long-term event contract. The North Carolina Healthcare Engineers Association (NCHEA) recently signed a multi-year contract with the new convention center for three annual conventions in 2014, 2016 and 2018. The events will create a total economic impact of more than $2.5 million dollars, says Kim Hufham, president and CEO of the Wilmington/Cape Fear Coast CVB.

By the end of the summer, Cherokee, N.C., will have 3,000 more seats to fill for events. Harrah’s Cherokee Casino and Hotel plans to open a new state-of-the-art events center during Labor Day weekend. The center will have four VIP suites, box seating and more than 1,000 balcony seats.
