Seeing everyone who has said they will be there do do xxx actually there and doing it, and doing it well! It take a LOT of people to put on a meeting. Everyone in the industry is so wonderful to work with, with very few exceptions.

ROI, WOW FACTOR, ADMIRATION...nah! It's living like a ROCK STAR! Staying in Presidential Suites, limos, champagne, front row seats, expansive waist lines from eating lavish six course meals with heads of hotel chains. politicians and others. And not once, might I add, but over and over and over in venues ALL over the world. Now THAT'S what cool, no SUPER COOL about being a meeting planner!

I will echo Jeff and say that this is an amazing group of folks to be listed alongside!

I love our industry and all of the people in it (well, most of them) and just want us to be a little better, do a little better and make the world a better place because every event has that ability.

Joan is 100% in saying that there are others like us, they are just too busy doing what they do as meeting and event professionals to have the time to write.

I hope that I give voice to some of those folks!

Jeff, I agree wholeheartedly with this! I've experimented with using modified Open Space techniques in previous conferences with some decent results. I'm also exploring how to use other models, like World Cafe and Art of Hosting ideas.

One thing I've found is that changing people's expectations for what happens at a more conversational/participative conference can be challenging. We are really wedded to the idea of conferences as a place where "experts" are sharing knowledge, even though people will often complain that they don't like "talking heads." I think there needs to be pre-conference conversation to help people get into a different mindset. But when we do this kind of thing, I think it's far better than our old paradigms!

What a great group of folks to be listed with: Tim Sanders, Scott Klososky, Joan Eisenstodt, Keith Johnston and Ashely Muntan! As well as two outstanding programs: Cirque Du Solei and TED.

These people are definitely the mavericks challenging the status quo and inviting people to embrace uncertainty and change. They are today's innovators and change agents. I learn a lot from these wise minds.

Hat Tips to Collinson Media for recognizing the challenge and need for change in our meetings and events!

Well, thank you, Christine - the nicest compliments I've had in a long time. I smiled when I read Tim Sanders' quote - about the only reason to have a meeting is to change the world: it's been my mantra since I was 12 or younger!

I'd add Paul Radde (author of "Seating Matters") to this list. Paul's concerned with people's health (mental and physical) and their environment.

There are others I am sure - we happen to regularly speak out. It is especially gratifying for me to be joined by those who are younger (than I) who will carry this message forward.

Anyone wanna "occupy" a meeting?
