Who we are
Collinson Media and Events has a background in group travel and the business of planning meetings and events. We’re combining our experience and interests in Connect, an online and print publication directed at organizers of specialty meetings and events for all types of groups — from hobby enthusiasts to fraternal associations to military organizations to those planning a big reunion. Our goal is to provide those charged with planning these events with the information, inspiration, and resources they’ll need to produce exciting, rewarding events.
Connect won the national Gold Award for New Publication, the highest honor for new magazines, for its premiere issue in the 2010 Azbee Awards of Excellence competition organized by the American Society of Business Publication Editors. The magazine won another national Gold Award for Regular Department for “The Mix,” its front-of-book news and trends section, as well as two regional silver awards, one for Regular Column and one for How-To Article.
We also produce Connect Marketplace, an exciting conference, trade show and gathering where planners, suppliers and experts in many fields have the opportunity to share ideas and best practices, as well as develop valuable relationships. You may have already heard about our well received Rejuvenate Marketplace for planners of faith-based events.
Why we’re different
We see meeting planning as inventive, fun, invigorating, creative and challenging.
We know meeting planners have to meet budgets and prove the value of the event to their membership.
We reflect all of those characteristics in engaging stories about the fascinating mix of personalities who plan conferences, conventions, meetings and get-togethers for a broad range of groups.
We also deliver advice, tools and services that will help you better perform your meeting planning responsibilities, whether you’re charged with planning a major convention, a small conference, or a retreat.
What we believe
In a world where information overload is common, where technologies proliferate, and products spring up or become obsolete overnight, we strive to deliver clear, concise, relevant and, most of all, interesting information you can use immediately to help with your meeting planning tasks. We want to fire your imagination and create a community of ideas around meeting planning. We hope to inform and infuse your work and meetings with passion, purpose and profitable returns, which is why we are inspired by Einstein’s quote and the following passage from a recent book, “The Medici Effect, What Elephants & Epidemics Can Teach Us About Innovation,” by Fans Johansson:
“You have to be willing to ‘waste time’ on things that are not directly relevant to your work because you are curious. But then you are able to, sometimes unconsciously, integrate them back into your work.”
