Atlanta event space opens in former Macy’s department store
A $16 million renovation has turned a former Atlanta department store into an event facility. The bottom three stories of the downtown space, which was once the iconic home of Davison and then Macy’s department stores, reopens June 5 as the Grand Atrium at 200 Peachtree. The venue has an 11,000-sq.-ft. banquet hall, 7,000 square feet of balcony space, 15,000 square feet of retail space, 20,000 square feet of conference space (opening later this year) and a 4,000-sq.-ft. kitchen. The venue retains the marble floors and atrium with 30-foot ceilings for which the space was originally known.
Located in the heart of downtown Atlanta, the facility is attached to The Westin Peachtree Plaza and walking distance from The Ritz-Carlton, Hyatt Regency Atlanta, Ellis Hotel and Atlanta Marriott Marquis. The Georgia World Congress Center, CNN Center and Centennial Olympic Park are within a half-mile. Two restaurants are also part of the property: Meehan’s Irish Pub, which opened in March, and Sweet Georgia’s Juke Joint, which is slated to open later this year.
