Off Site: Antelope Island

Imagine being on an island, riding horseback and seeing herds of buffalo set against a distant cityscape and snow-capped mountains. Welcome to Antelope Island in Utah, the Great Salt Lake’s largest land mass and a remotely beautiful, yet easily accessible meeting break, connected to the mainland by a causeway about a half-hour drive from Salt Lake City. This spare and striking state park is home to a roaming herd of about 500 bison, as well as pronghorn and bighorn sheep that share the rangelands. Year-round recreation includes easy hiking (on backcountry trails), horseback riding, cycling (check for on-site rentals) and cross-country skiing. The visitor center offers information on the island’s unique biology, geology and history.
